The verdict

A large, genuinely flex-free aluminium profile rig for serious direct-drive setups, priced accordingly, with accessories that add up fast.

Best for

  • Direct-drive users running 10+ Nm who need zero chassis flex
  • Sim racers who want extensive add-on compatibility (motion, buttkicker, triple monitors)
  • Buyers planning to keep a rig long-term and build it out over time

Not for

  • Space-constrained rooms, this is a large footprint rig
  • Budget-conscious buyers, frame alone starts around $800 and the seat is a separate purchase
  • Those wanting formula-style seating positions

The TR160S has been OC Racing’s permanent chassis for close to six months, run with direct-drive wheelbases generating up to 16 Nm and load cell pedals stiff enough to feel like pressing against a wall. In that time: no flex, no loosening, no failures. That is an unusual result for an aluminium profile rig at this price point, and it is the core reason this chassis earns serious consideration over cheaper alternatives.

Built from 160x40mm aluminium profile beams, this rig sits at the larger end of the home cockpit market. OC Racing notes he would not have been able to use it in his bedroom, where smaller profile rigs from other brands had fitted comfortably. If your space is limited, measure carefully before ordering. The fluorescent blue anodised finish is distinctive and polarising in equal measure. Matte black is the alternative if you want something less conspicuous. Both the TR1 wheel mount and pedal plate are thick metal sheet, and the red finish on the TR1 mounting brackets is a considered detail. Packaging was notably good: every component arrived wrapped and scratch-free, with accessories grouped to make the assembly sequence clear.

After two years of daily use, Dan Suzuki’s verdict is positive but specific about the caveats. He flags metal flakes inside the profile channels as a real annoyance that Trak Racer should address: unpack everything outside with a vacuum before bringing any part indoors, or you will be finding metal chips in your carpet for weeks. The T-nuts use softer metal than brands like Simoore, and can strip if you overtighten. Go careful. On the value question his take is direct: the TR120 and the TR160 are close enough in price that the rigidity difference is imperceptible. Buy the TR160S if you prefer the look of the wider frame, not because you expect meaningfully better stiffness. For pedal mounting, he singles out the aluminium adjustable profile deck as the best option on the market at any price: the gap between profiles adjusts to fit any pedal set, the heel rest is independently adjustable, and it costs the same as the pre-drilled steel plate it replaces. There is no reason to buy the steel version.

"Despite everything I've tested on this rig I've never really had a problem with any type of flex and that's something I can't say about most of the rigs I've reviewed in the past."

"The aluminum profile version is the best pedal deck that you can buy on the whole market pretty much, because you can adjust the gap of these two profiles so it will work with every pedal set."

Buyer questions

People also ask

Real questions from Google, Reddit and YouTube comments. Answered directly.

Does the TR160S include a seat?

+

No. The frame is sold without a seat. Trak Racer's own seats range from around 300 to 500 GBP. OC Racing recommends the Trak Racer rally seat for its memory foam padding and fiberglass shell. Dan Suzuki tested the same seat and found the backrest flexed under heavy braking loads around 70-80 kg, and suggests looking at dedicated seat makers for high-load use.

Does a shifter mount come in the box?

+

No. The shifter mount costs around 17 EUR extra. It is well-built, but most rigs at this price include one as standard.

Is the TR160S noticeably stiffer than the TR120?

+

Dan Suzuki owned a TR160 for nearly two years and says you will not notice the rigidity difference in practice. The base frame profile is 160mm versus 120mm, but the uprights and their mounting method matter more than frame width. His recommendation: save the money and buy the TR120 unless you prefer the aesthetics of the wider frame.

What wheelbase mounting options are available?

+

Three main options: a standard pre-drilled wheel deck, the TR1 wheel deck, and the TR1 direct-drive front mount. Dan Suzuki strongly recommends the TR1 front mount (17 EUR extra) for any direct-drive base that supports front mounting. Simucube, VRS, Simagic, and most major direct-drive brands qualify.

What should I do about metal flakes before assembly?

+

Unpack the profiles outside with a vacuum nearby and clean the channels before bringing anything indoors. The manufacturing process leaves metal chips inside the profile slots. They spread through carpet and are very difficult to remove once inside.
